These Cootes deeds (1829-1881) are for informational purposes only. All should be verified with the original copies, many are incomplete. 
A few of John G. Cootes’ deeds have been included because of Cootes Store names.

1840- Saml Cootes........his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen hundred....lawful.........to H. H. Carr in hand paid by the said Anthony Rader the receipt whereof is here...............have given granted bargained and sold and by these presents do give grant........sell to the said Anthony Rader and his heirs and assigns forever a certain...........of land lying in and adjoining Turley Town...
 
1841- Saml Cootes and Emily his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to them in hand paid by the said Adam Houdeshell the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell to the said Adam Houdeshell his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Rockingham situate on the west side of the big road passing through Turley Town and on the West side of Brock’s Gap...
 
1842- Samuel Cootes in trust to secure a debt due from him to Aaron Dove a certain tract of land lying & being in Brocks Gap in Rockingham County....
 
1842- Samuel Cootes of the county and state aforesaid of the other part........that the said Jeremiah Fifer and Elizabeth his wife for and in considera...........ion of the sum of three hundred and twelve dollars and cents lawful money....

1843- James Laird and Sarah his wi…………in consideration of the sum of one Dollar lawful money of Virginia to therein hand………..said Samuel Cootes the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained………..by these presents do grant bargain and sell to the said Samuel Coots and his heirs……forever a certain lot of ground with its appurtenances in the town of Harrisonburg
 
1843- Saml Cootes of the County………..ingham and State of Virginia of the one part and Jacob Bare of the County and state………..Dollars to be paid in the following manner to wit one hundred dollars...
 
1843- Saml Cootes and in consideration of the sum of one Dollar to him in hand paid by the said Jacob Neff the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold...
 
1844- Samuel Cootes of the County of Rockingham and State of Virginia of the one part and Judith Austin of the county and state afsd of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Saml Cootes for and consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars two hundred dollars of which sum was paid on the 1st day of April 1844 and the remaining two hundred dollars
