ROCKINGHAM REGISTER

Saturday, January 23, 1836

Samuel Cootes a large property owner and founder of Cootes Store, has a large, illustrated for sale advertisement of his Turley Town Inn, his stock of merchandise and 200 acres of land adjoining.  Mr. Cootes states in this advertisement  that he is erecting new buildings "at the Cross Roads, immediately at Brocks Gap and within 3-8 of a mile from the splendid new furnace lately erected by G. Pennybacker, Esq". He also offers a lot of 3 acres in and adjoining the town of Harrisonburg
